Whether you’re looking for a relaxing vacation, a little fishing action on the lake, or some fun in the sun, there is always something to do here.  Half Moon Trail offers a great mix of amenities for everyone, ensuring a memory-filled vacation for the entire family.

Pool

Surrounded by beautiful flowers, majestic pines, and mature oaks, the Half Moon Trail pool is an afternoon hotspot. The clean, sparkly pool is heated to a comfortable 82 degrees from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and depending on weather, is often heated further into September. The depth ranges from three to seven feet, and there are tables and chairs, as well as lounge chairs in the pool area. Whether you’re looking to catch a few rays, cool off with a dip in the glistening water, or have an afternoon snack with the kiddos –it’s a great spot to enjoy the sunshine on a hot summer day!

Lodge

Mornings usually begin with guests trickling in for a steaming cup of jo before heading out for a quiet morning kayak ride, or to simply enjoy watching the fog roll back with the sun poking through from our lakeside deck.  The fireplace room, complete with a beautiful lake view, cozy couches, and rocking chairs, is a great place to swap golf or fishing stories and make plans for another day at the lake. If your plans call for a check on the weather, the beautiful courtyard garden is the perfect spot to do it, with high speed Wi-Fi available throughout the lodge and surrounding decks. Our spacious lodge hosts our weekly bingo night and billiards tournament, and is a place that guests frequent throughout the day for a sweet treat, a zippy game of ping pong, or to cozy up with a book by the large, stone fireplace. The lodge also provides a retreat on drizzly days, with board games and a little children’s corner to keep the youngsters happy despite inclement weather.  It is a place for family and friends to gather in the evenings for their after dinner, triple decker cone or delectable chocolate malt, before heading out onto the lake for an evening cruise.

Beach

Life can’t get much better than having nothing to do but recline in your lounge chair, getting lost in a book and basking in the warm summer sun; or enjoying the simple pleasure of watching your children play in the sand and the quietly lapping water. Our gentle, sloping sand beach, along with Boot Lake’s crystal clear water, is a sure-fire recipe for a classic summer resort day. The beach has ample room, is surrounded by terraced gardens, and has two docks stretching out on either side, ready for the kids, worms, and flopping fish. With a clarity reading of 19’, Boot Lake is one of the clearest and cleanest lakes in Minnesota – perfect for sand castles, swimming, or kayaking.

Lake Front

As a fun-filled day of tubing and wakeboarding winds down, the breeze slowly dies, and the smell of barbeque cooking over the charcoal grill fills the air. The glassy evening water, broken only by the small wake of a loon, beckons those looking to sharpen their slalom skills or cast for a winning bass. With crystal clear water, relatively undeveloped shoreline, and low boat traffic, Boot Lake is a perfect place to experience one of Minnesota’s greatest summer traditions. The resort originally started back in the 1950’s as a fishing camp, and although it is much more than that now, Boot Lake still offers some great fishing for those looking to wet a line. Half Moon Trail offers a variety of paddling vehicles to get out on the water and enjoy all the beauty this great Northern Minnesota Lake has to offer. There are also flat bottom skiffs for fishing, and a pontoon available to rent for those looking to take a leisurely sunset cruise with the family.

Outdoor Recreation

Between the clack of balls at the carpet ball tables, and the smack of a wooden mallet at the knuckle ball game, you might hear an occasional shout from an elated winner. Small voices are overheard giggling from a game of chase around the playground, only interrupted by the occasional, distant sound of loons calling on the lake. There are many sounds and feelings here at Half Moon Trail that bring many back to experience a piece of the good ole’ days when baseball games were played in the street, everyone left their doors unlocked, and kids were entertained out of doors. There are some unique games here, along with many classic ones, that will have the half-pint sized all tuckered out at days end, dreaming of tomorrow when they can do it all over again.
